Miss Kitty
April 1, 1990 - July 3, 2008

I have had the honor and privilege of having an absolutely incredible life partner for most of my adult life. She was sweet, loving, affectionate, patient, fun, playful, talented and beautiful. She listened to me when I needed a friend, she loved on me when I cried, she survived five years of drawings and models in architecture school, she out-lasted more boyfriends than I can count, she sat on my desk for countless hours through eight years of dissertation work, she traveled cross-country with me over a dozen times and never once complained that I sang too loud or repeated a song one too many times.

Miss Kitty, my sweet little April Fool's baby, I am so happy to have had you in my life. I will miss the chipmunk and squirrel watching we shared, the sun baths and naps, the little wheat fluffs that we played with, the biscuits and sugar cookies we used to eat together, the yarn wars we had while you spent time under my loom, the late nights and early mornings when you were always there to greet me, but most of all, I will miss your soft fluff, your warm purr, and your sweet, sweet love. I know that your kind generous spirit will be with me all of my days. Enjoy this portion of your life's journey and know you will always be in my heart.

Merowr-Merowr & Purrrrrrrrr-Purrrrrrrrrrr
Yours Always,
Love,
- Mel

How has digital technology changed our perception of reality? This question has fueled the work of Madrid artist, writer, and curator Daniel Canogar for the last two decades. In the late nineties, he developed a multi-projection system using fiber optic cables. Eliminating the photographic frame, these immersive photo-installations cast the viewer as a moving screen that covers and uncovers images. These work also call on our age-old fascination with magic and illusionism, while updating the notion of the technological phantom. Ultimately, Canogar submerges us into the image to investigate how identity is altered by the space of the spectacle.

Daniel Canogar’s work has been widely exhibited throughout Europe and the Americas where it is found in many important collections. He has also written extensively on the architecture of the image, contemporary photography, and new media art. Canogar is currently artistic director of VIDA, an annual international competition sponsored by the Fundación Telefónica, showcasing work that investigates the intersection of art and artificial intelligence.

I realized after making the public post of our wonderful engagement news that I am missing some people on my friends list that should have been there for years. If you happen to know of someone who isn't there and should be, please make a note here. I've added several folks this morning but still might be missing a few. Hell, I was surprised to find out one of you even had an lj!

thanks again for all the wonderful well wishes and the congrats!

Andrew's Star

Here ye,
Here ye,
Let it be known throughout the universe that
[info]hdiandrew, one of the Fathers of the land and skies of Fading Suns,
has laid claim to a star!

Early on Easter morning, the holiday of rebirth,
[info]hdiandrew made an early 40th birthday wish
and in a most unexpected way,
asked me to be his wife.

I happily agreed to be with him for a 1000 birthdays and even more.
This little star is twinkling brighter than ever now with bliss and happiness!

Stu Jenks, a friend of mine from Tuscon, is a photographer and music artist. I was reading his blog today and noticed that he finds it amusing that he gets a penny every time someone listens to the snippets of his song. That’s right - he gets a penny for every time someone pushes the little ‘Listen’ button on one of his tracks on many of the legal download sites, like ITunes, EMusic, Rhapsody, MSN Music, CDBaby.

I was wondering if you would help make his day by going to at least one of the following links and hearing a little music ;-)

Here you go!
Stu at Rhapsody
Stu at MSN music
Stu at CDBaby
Stu at Great Indie
Stu at Napster
Stu at MusicIsHere

thanks!

A would love for my friends to do this!

Under the cut is his resume. He's looking for an IT director position in the 70k+ range. Work environment and the ability to move up also play a part...not just money. If you know of anything, we'd appreciate leads!

There will be a protest at the CNN center this Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. Before Bush's state of the union address. Millions are outraged over revelations of secret NSA spying, the continuing unjust war in Iraq, the prospect of Alito on the supreme court and the whole radical remaking of society in a fascist way. The regime is immoral, unjust and criminal!

IF YOU CAN NOT ATTEND -- SPREAD THE WORD!! bring noise makers, drums...

War, Peace, and the American Imagination: A Conversation with James Hillman and Deepak Chopra

Presented by the Mythic Imagination Institute and Alliance for a New Humanity and Emory University
September 20, 2005, 8pm
Glenn Memorial Auditorium, Emory University Campus

Deepak Chopra, author of Peace Is The Way, believes it is possible for individuals to transform their consciousness to such an extent as to bring war to an end. James Hillman, author of A Terrible Love of War, believes that we are ceaselessly driven to war by psychological realities that reveal themselves in a multitude of ways. Perhaps we can tame this drive, but can it ever be transformed?

These great minds will discuss and debate the causes of war, examine the possibilities of peace, and explore the role of the imagination during an evening's conversation moderated by renowned philosopher and mythologist Jean Houston.

Tickets: $5 for students and faculty, $20 for the general public. Tickets are available through the Arts at Emory Box Office atwww.arts.emory.edu or by phone at 404-727-5050. Emory students may also purchase tickets at the Dobbs University Center (DUC).

For more information please call 404-832-4127 or visit www.mythicimagination.org.

I am really tempted to see if I can get the washer and dryer and get it to Fritz, but I don't know how to a) get the set, b) store the set, and c) transport it to huntsville and then to LA....hummm, must brainstorm on this one.
